Sports Funding

Since 2013, Government Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport have provided additional funding to schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE. Schools are held to account for how they spend the sports premium funding and we have therefore included details about our spending below for your information.

At Sandcross we are fully committed to ensuring that our children are fit, healthy and active learners and we recognise the vital role that sports and outdoor learning play in realising this goal. We want our children to make healthy choices, to enjoy physical activity and to appreciate its benefits.

The Sports premium is spent in a number of ways with the ultimate intention of providing high quality PE provision for all. We continue to use a portion of the grant to encourage more of our disadvantaged pupils to participate in sports based clubs both in and outside of school. These children wouldn’t otherwise have been able to access the clubs and has resulted in an increase of physical activity for them as well as a greater skill level and confidence.

For further information about our Sports Premium spending, see below.

Swimming

Year 6 Swimming Assessment 2019

In our current Year 6, 58 children have reached all of the required swimming standards, which amounts to approximately 49% of our children.

Results can be further broken down as follows:

Standard

No. Meeting

Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres

59

Use a range of strokes effectively

59

Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations

58

Historically at Sandcross, children have participated in swimming as part of their PE curriculum in Year 3. However, outcomes suggest that this is not sufficient in helping them to reach the expected standards by the end of Key Stage 2. Therefore, from September 2019, children who do not meet the required standard while in year three will continue to learn to swim in year four. Sports Premium funding will support this additional swimming activity.
