Our New Curriculum

A New Curriculum

“Since we can't know what knowledge will be most needed in the future, it is senseless to try to teach it in advance. Instead, we should try to turn out people who love learning so much and learn so well that they will be able to learn whatever needs to be learned.”

John Holt, (1923-1985)

This is an exciting time for us here at Sandcross, as we begin a review into our school curriculum to bring our children’s learning firmly into the 21st century. In creating our curriculum design, we are considering as a community what knowledge, understanding and skills the children at Sandcross School will need to be successful citizens, able to make a meaningful contribution to the world they live in. In addition, we will consider how we can make our curriculum relevant to our local community. We recognise that some elements are likely to be essential for our children, such as:

  • Learning beyond the classroom
  • Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education.
  • Creativity – one of our values - and the Arts.
  • Thinking skills, problem solving and Enterprise.

“I define creativity as the process of having original ideas that have value...My contention is that creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status”
Sir Ken Robinson
