RE

Religious Education at Sandcross

At Sandcross, we follow the Surrey Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education and work closely with local religious groups to enrich our curriculum. Our RE curriculum is thoughtfully designed to help pupils explore key religious and moral concepts, fostering understanding and respect for diverse beliefs and practices.

  • Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): Young learners begin their RE journey by exploring themes such as identity, belonging, celebrations, and the wonders of the world through inquiry and storytelling.

  • Key Stage 1: Pupils are introduced to key stories and beliefs in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. They learn about topics like the significance of creation, leadership, and how different faiths celebrate special occasions.

  • Lower Key Stage 2: Students delve deeper into Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Sikhism, examining the role of worship, values, and creative expressions of faith. They also explore Humanism, fostering a broader understanding of beliefs beyond organized religion.

  • Upper Key Stage 2: Learners engage in thoughtful discussions about Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity, focusing on themes like community, morality, and identity. They consider the relevance of religious beliefs in tackling global challenges such as racism and the impact of faith on daily life.

Our curriculum balances three Christianity-focused units with two world religion units and one thematic unit annually, ensuring a well-rounded and inclusive learning experience.

Parent and Carer Rights

We recognize the importance of respecting the beliefs and preferences of families. Parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their children from some or all Religious Education lessons if they wish. If you are considering this, we encourage you to speak with your child’s teacher or contact the school office to discuss your options and any alternative arrangements.

By integrating personal reflection and critical thinking, our RE lessons aim to equip students with the knowledge and empathy to thrive in a diverse world.
