Inspiring Lifelong Success
Our Vision: ‘Igniting awe and wonder about the world by assisting discovery’
Intent
The Science curriculum at Sandcross is designed to encourage a sense of awe, wonder and curiosity about the world. Our aim is also to challenge, develop and nurture the “Whole Child‟ with a mission of “Inspiring Lifelong Success‟. We intend to achieve this through delivering a curriculum based on enquiry, investigation and thought provoking learning experiences.
Implementation - So, how are we going to deliver this?
“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery.”
Mark Van Doren
Teachers and/or children will engage in age appropriate investigations, which will spark the children’s curiosity and develop their understanding of the world around them. The curriculum will be planned so that previous knowledge and understanding is built upon and developed further.
Key curriculum vocabulary, as outlined in the National Curriculum, will be identified throughout this process in addition to developing an understanding of the vocabulary of enquiry.
Impact - What difference is this curriculum making to our children?
Through doing this we intend the pupils to foster a sense of respect for the environment and promote resilience for overcoming challenges. They will be able to apply their knowledge of the inquiry process to other areas of the curriculum to question, test and validate their thinking. This will in turn help them to become more responsible and independent learners, gaining a better understanding and respect for themselves and others and benefit the pupils across the whole of their educational development.
